Seminar on Water Scarcity in Semi-Arid Areas: Exploring Sustainable Solutions

The Institute of Peace and Environment recently hosted a vital seminar titled “Water Scarcity in the Semi-Arid Area: Sustainable Perspectives for Solutions,” addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges in the region. The seminar brought together a diverse group of participants, including key stakeholders from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture, the World Bank, the World Water Partnership, scholars, and students, all united in their commitment to finding sustainable solutions to water scarcity in semi-arid areas.

Eng. Abdirahman Ismail Dhaqane, a respected expert in water management, facilitated the seminar, guiding the discussions and ensuring a thorough exploration of the complex issues surrounding water scarcity. Eng. Dhaqane highlighted the unique challenges faced by semi-arid regions, such as low rainfall, high evaporation rates, and the increasing demand for water resources, which place immense pressure on existing water systems.

The seminar focused on sustainable strategies to address these challenges, emphasizing the importance of innovative water management solutions, efficient irrigation techniques, and the role of policy in ensuring equitable water distribution. Experts and stakeholders shared their insights on both local and global approaches to tackling water scarcity, and discussions explored the role of international partnerships in supporting these efforts.

By bringing together a broad range of voices, the seminar aimed to foster collaboration and drive actionable solutions that can improve water security in semi-arid areas, ensuring long-term sustainability and resilience for communities affected by water scarcity.
