Ecosystems Restoration

The Somali environment is suffering from decades of environmental exploitation and neglect, which has led to deforestation, desertification, and land degradation. As such, the country is one of the first nations in the world in which climate change has adversely impacted disproportionately because of its post-conflict fragile sociopolitical and economic status. Thus to restore the Somali ecosystems in a process concurrent to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 15 (Life on Land), biodiversity protection and land reforestation are practical solutions to reverse the current speed of land degradation and restore the lost ecosystems.
